Saraswati Puja was celebrated in mithila and at most of the places today. It was started with a traditional puja and pushpanjali, followed by bhog. In the evening, there were some traditional aarti and cultural programmes by the pandals.Saraswati Puja as one can guess is simpler and more homely as compared to Durga or Kali Puja. While the this pooja can be done in individual homes and even on a very small scale, the other pujas are too elaborate and tremendously expensive to be undertaken solo.
Students, artists and academicians place their books, laptops, pens, pencils, ink pots, musical instruments near the goddess during the puja. Once the puja and other rituals are over, these specially blessed books etc are ready to be used again.Traditionally, Basant Panchami festival is also celebrated to initiate education in children, since it is Goddess Saraswati’s birthday. Most of the sarvajanik and household Saraswati pujas will begin by 11 am today, because the Panchami will last only till the wee hours of tomorrow.
