After several delays and hurdles, the start of Darbhanga airport might see its day! We had reported earlier that the flight operations were to start from August 2018 but now it seems the airport may start no sooner than mid of 2019.
What Caused the delays?
The commercial flight operations from Darbhanga airport has seen a delay due to the absence of bidders for re-carpeting of the runway airstrip. Now, the Airport Authority of India has awarded the contract to a firm for this purpose. The authorities and the construction engineers are hopeful that runway re-carpeting and infrastructure preparations for the airport will be ready by around June 2019.
The other hurdle in the construction was NOC from Indian Airforce which has now been sought by AAI. This has paved way for the speedy construction of the commercial flight infrastructure construction in the airport campus.
Latest Status of Airport Construction
‘All the paper works for construction of the airport at Darbhanga has been completed and people will soon be able to fly from Darbhanga airport’, quotes Rajiv Ranjan – the wing commander at Darbhanga Airforce Center. The defense person went on to add that only ‘the date for laying the foundation stone is yet to be finalized’ in the event.
The flight operators license has already been awarded to Spice Jet in to start flights from Darbhanga to Delhi, Darbhanga to Mumbai and Darbhanga to Mumbai under the low-cost airfare UDAN2 scheme.

The making of a terminal point, platform, car parking, and connecting road may soon start after an inauguration.
