Ex Darbhanga Commissioner is Bihar’s first IAS to be convicted for corruption charges

Braj Kishore Singh – the ex-commissioner of Darbhanga and an IAS of Bihar cadre received the punishment of 3 years in a case of corruption. The former bureaucrat has been penalized with 3 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of twenty thousand rupees.

This conviction came from a CBI court in the 3-decade old case of corruption. Interestingly, it is the first time an IAS officer has been convicted in Bihar. Braj Kishore Singh – a resident of Masaudhi of Patna, is an IAS of the batch of 1970.

In this case of corruption, CBI courts decision came after a long period of 30 years. Based on the statements of witnesses and available pieces of evidence, the special judge of CBI – Ajay Kumar, found the former commissioner – Braj kishore Singh guilty under the Prevention of Corruption Act. CBI court released him on a formal bail to challenge this decision in Patna High Court.

FIR was registered in 1986

CBI had registered an FIR in this on December 8, 1986. After investigations, the agency had filed a charge sheet in the CBI court against ex-commissioner in 1996. The CBI had filed a case of corruption at a when Braj Kishore Singh was the commissioner of Darbhanga. The tainted bureaucrat held several important positions in the Bihar Government from 1974 to 1986. He was charged of misusing his position to amass a large wealth.
