It seems Mithila painting and its artists have caught the fancy of the Japanese government too! The government was very impressed with Mithila art painted on the Bihar Sampark Kranti Express trains. It has decided to make it painted on its bullet trains. For this purpose, the Japanese government has approached the Ministry of Indian Railways.
Piyush Goyal, Minister of Railway recently tweeted that Mithila paintings, on Sampark Kranti Express Train, has impressed the land of rising sun. In fact, Japan has also requested India to send a team, specialized in this art, to its country. ‘This will help the local Mithila painting artists showcase their talent internationally’, the minister added.
Bihar Sampark Kranti Express, decorated with Mithila style of paintings on 9 of its bogies, ran first on August 23, 22018. Then 10 more bodies were painted on October 1, 2018. Later on, the entire train was showcased with Mithila painting by October 16, 2018. All these bogies displayed common themes of this painting style like – forest, rural life, transport system, rural kitchen, sunrise, fishes, waterfalls and trees and contemporary themes like Beti Bachao- Beti Padhao and abolition of dowry.
