Mithila has a tradition classical and traditional folk music. For example ‘Fag’ or ‘Hori’ in the Hindi month of Falgun and ‘Kajri’ in the month of Shravan.
While male oriented songs are sung in Hori while the Kajri is sung by women in Mithila.
Both of these music forms had a deep impact on the life of people in the region. Often, reflected by the songs which are sung in Shravan and Phagun.
However this great tradition of Mithila is on the brink of extinction. It is need to save this rich tradition and culture of Mithila.
For this reason, Sadbhavana Yatra Samiti and local artists are organising a presentation of singing of Kajri in this rainy season.
Manikant Jha , coordinator of Sadbhavan Yatra Samiti told that Kajri Festival is being organized in the auditorium of Maharaja Mahesh Thakur Mithila College ( MMTM college) Darbhanga.
On this occasion, several artists will display their performance in the traditional songs.
Pandit Hardwar Prasad Khandelwal and Pandit Vinay Kumar Jha will present the classical music. The name of another artist are as follows – Dr. Sushma Jha , Dipak Kumar Jha , Anupama Mishra , Kedar Nath Kumar , Janki Thakur , Niraj Kumar Jha , Rakesh Kiran Jha , Ram Parikshan Rai of AIR Darbhanga will produce their presentation.
Mr Jha, also said that Pandit Gauri Kant Jha, Pandit Sudhir Kumar Mishra, Pandit Arun Dwivedi, Ashok Kumar Jha and Abhay Kumar Jha will be present on Tabla to accompany these artists , while Arjun Kumar Jha will accompany on Nal.
